Saudi Cup (G1) winner Senor Buscador retained his number one ranking in week six of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's top Thoroughbred poll, released March 5.
The top three horses as ranked by NTRA voters all ran in the Saudi Cup. Third-place finisher Saudi Crown moved up one place to the second spot this week. He surpassed Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) winner National Treasure , who was fourth in the Saudi Cup.
Senor Buscador is expected to run next in the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1) March 30.
The big race in the older handicap division this past week was of course the Santa Anita Handicap (G1), won by Newgate . The 4-year-old Into Mischief colt jumped from 41st up to the sixth spot on account of his breakthrough grade 1 win.
Last year's champion older dirt female Idiomatic , who has not run in a race or recorded a workout this year, held on to the fourth spot. White Abarrio , who ran a disappointing 10th in the Saudi Cup, remained in fifth.
In the NTRA's top 3-year-old poll, Nysos held on to the top spot despite being scratched from the San Felipe Stakes (G2) March 3.
There were two notable movers among the 3-year-olds. Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner Dornoch was elevated from 10th to fourth, while Gotham Stakes (G3) winner Deterministic went from unranked to 10th.
