A workmanlike second session at the Ocala Breeders' March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training concluded March 13, with a colt by Not This Time taking top honors after selling for $1.5 million to Pro Racing Stable, agent.
The colt consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds as Hip 533 turned in a fleet-footed eighth-mile breeze in :09 4/5 last week during the under tack show, showcasing his athleticism. The consignors purchased the bay colt the previous year at The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select yearling sale, for a whopping $900,000, their only purchase at the New York sale.
Bred in Kentucky by Rockingham Ranch, out of the winning War Front mare Pammy Whammy , the colt is a half sibling to the 2022 Unzip Me Stakes-placed Pammy's Ready , by More Than Ready.
Trainer Jose D'Angelo signed the sales ticket for the colt, which will be in a similar owner partnership to his other stable star by Not This Time, No More Time . The 3-year-old colt owned by Morplay Racing won the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) in February and was a recent second in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) March 9.
"Both of the seven-figure horses were beautiful and looked really good on the racetrack and at the barns," OBS director of sales Tod Wojciechowski commented. We appreciate the consignors bringing us quality horses; that makes the sale special."
One other individual hit the seven-figure ceiling Wednesday, a colt by the late Flatter purchased by agent Ramiro Restrepo, signing as Marquee Bloodstock at $1.3 million. Consigned by Sequel Bloodstock as Hip 494, the colt turned in a :09 4/5 eighth last week and will be headed to the Gustavo Delgado barn.
"Today went really well. There was activity throughout the day at all levels," Wojciechowski said. "The numbers spell that out. It felt really good."
