Expanded Duties for Woodbine's Steve Lym

Steve Lym, director of Thoroughbred racing and racing secretary at Woodbine, will have his role expanded to include operational responsibilities for the Woodbine backstretch, it was announced Feb. 13.



As a result of Lym's expanded duties, which will include stall allocations and all aspects of Woodbine Entertainment Group's morning training endeavors, the Canadian track is conducting a search for a new racing secretary. Lym, 45, who has served as racing secretary since 2003, will retain his director of Thoroughbred racing title.



"Steve deserves the opportunity to mould the racing operations in his way," said Steve Koch, Woodbine's vice president of Thoroughbred racing. "We have a terrific product here, with excellent growth in handle, and Steve will only enhance that with his strong relationship with the Woodbine racing and backstretch community."



Lym will continue to be based out of the racing office.



"My goal is to provide the horse people at Woodbine with the best environment for training and racing this year and beyond," said Lym. "I'll miss preparing the race card in my role as race secretary, but I am particularly looking forward to working as a liaison between the horse people and Woodbine management."



The Woodbine backstretch opens Feb. 18 in preparation of the April 12 start of the 133-day Thoroughbred meet.
