Description:

Jockey Fernando Perez was released from the hospital only hours after his mount in the fifth race at Santa Anita Park June 25 fatally broke down and sent him crashing to the ground.

Perez sat in fifth, on 2-year-old She Sings Along, entering the stretch in a five-furlong maiden special weight event, when the filly broke down, breaking one of her front legs.

The jockey was vaulted forward, hit the dirt, and rolled under his mount as she tried to regain her footing. He was loaded into an ambulance on a backboard and transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calf., where he was eventually released.

"(He's) OK," Perez's agent, Tommy Ball, said. "Little bit (of a) sore knee is all ... He wants to ride tomorrow, (but) we will re-evaluate in the (morning)."

She Sings Along was euthanized following her injury. A daughter of Aragorn, she was owned by breeders Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and trained by Steve Miyadi. She was out of the Petionville   mare She Sings.
