Maggi Moss' Delaunay, a winner of more than $1.1 million, ended his streak of second-place finishes in the Iowa Sprint Handicap with a victory in the $125,000 event the evening of June 26 at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino.

The 8-year-old Smoke Glacken gelding, claimed by trainer Tom Amoss for Moss for $40,000 in May 2012 at Churchill Downs, finished second in the six-furlong stakes the past three years. This year he posted an easy wire-to-wire victory over Bruvver Max and Den's Legacy in 1:09.33 on a fast track.

It was the 19th career win for Delaunay, who paid $3.80 to win as the favorite in a field of six. He was ridden by Ramon Vazquez, who a race earlier captured the $100,000 Iowa Distaff Stakes aboard Diva's Diamond for owner Jerry Namy and trainer Karl Broberg.

Delauney has now won 12 stakes for Moss, who lives in Iowa. She was on hand in the winner's circle along with Amoss.

"This field set up in the right fashion for him," Amoss said. "He was able to control things. He had faced tougher fields in this race before. I'm really happy for Maggi Moss to win this race with one of her favorite horses."

Amoss said he isn't sure where Delaunay, who was bred in Maryland by Fitzhugh LLC, will make his next start.
