Bold Act Remains Stateside in Louisville Stakes

Godolphin homebred Bold Act  remains in the United States to race beneath the Churchill Downs lights May 18 in the 1 1/2-mile $250,000 Louisville Stakes (G3T).

Trained by Charlie Appleby, the 4-year-old son of New Approach  finished third in the April 20 Elkhorn Stakes (G2) at Keeneland to stablemate Silver Knott , who would return May 11 with a victory in the Man o' War Stakes (G2T) at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Earning $588,702 through seven wins in 14 starts, Bold Act won his U.S. debut in the Oct. 13 Sycamore Stakes (G3T) before beginning his 2024 season with a victory in the March 2 Dubai City of Gold (G2T) at Meydan.

Among the 10 challengers is a quartet of Mike Maker trainees, led by Nice Guys Stables' Starting Over .

The Liam's Map   gelding started his 7-year-old season with a second in the William L. McKnight Stakes (G3T) at the same 1 1/2-mile distance Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park before taking the 1 3/8-mile Mac Diarmida (G2T) March 2.

Sugoi  was claimed by Maker for owners Paradise Farms and David Staudacher for $50,000 out of his neck victory at Keeneland April 25. The 7-year-old Karakontie   gelding is 3-for-3 this year but has yet to run this distance or against graded company.

Maker also trains Guntown  and Quadra Island .
