Clear Skies for Dazzling Blue in Winning Colors

Following a close second in the April 27 Roxelana Overnight Stakes in her 2024 debut, Juddmonte's Dazzling Blue  seeks her first graded stakes win in the $250,000 Winning Colors Stakes (G3) May 27 at Churchill Downs.

Ten other fillies and mares are entered, though one, 2023 Sugar Swirl Stakes (G3) winner Spirit Wind , could alternately race in the Memorial Day Sprint Stakes at Lone Star Park Monday.

The outside-drawn Dazzling Blue, a winner of her first three starts last year at ages 2 and 3, including the 2022 Letellier Memorial Stakes, is in the midst of a four-race losing skid. Prior to the Roxelana, the daughter of Into Mischief   ran third last year in the Raven Run Stakes (G2), third in the Prioress Stakes (G2), and second in the Victory Ride Stakes (G3).

"I thought her last run here in the stakes was really good Derby week. I thought she probably needed the race a little bit off the layoff," said trainer Brad Cox, who also noted her affinity for the Churchill surface.

Zeitlos comes from off the pace to score a late-running victory in the $200,000 Roxelana Overnight Stakes under Joel Rosario!

Besides Dazzling Blue and Spirit Wind, there are two other stakes winners in the Winning Colors: three-time Turfway Park stakes winner B G Warrior  and 2023 Audubon Oaks winner Positano Sunset .

The field further includes 2023 Test Stakes (G1) runner-up Clearly Unhinged , who won an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill April 30 in her first start for trainer Steve Asmussen.
