Speed was the name of the game in the $250,000 Winning Colors Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs May 27, and Clearly Unhinged brought plenty to spare.
Sent forward from the gate by Joel Rosario, Clearly Unhinged pressured longshot B G Warrior as they blazed through an opening fraction of :21.02 before Clearly Unhinged seized a clear advantage through :44.34. Clearly Unhinged dispatched her rivals in the far turn and kept finding more as she entered the stretch.
"As soon as I said go, she definitely went forward for me and I just let her go," Rosario said.
Favored Dazzling Blue mounted a mild charge in the lane, but never threatened to catch up while settling for the runner-up spot 1 1/2 lengths behind. Unsung Melody finished third. Clearly Unhinged completed the six furlongs in 1:09.69 while paying $6 to win.
Rosario rode the filly for the first time in an allowance victory April 30 at Churchill, which he said gave him confidence to let her go quickly Monday.
"It gives you more of an idea of how she wants to be ridden," Rosario said. "She loves doing what she does."
Owned by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings and Jarret Prussin, the 4-year-old Into Mischief filly picked up her first graded win after a pair of grade 1 placings at age 3.
"It's a big deal for a filly that's bred like this," said Scott Blasi, assistant for winning trainer Steve Asmussen.
Blasi said the filly will head to Saratoga Race Course and likely target the July 24 Honorable Miss (G2) and Aug. 24 Ballerina (G1) handicaps.
