Fox Hill Farms' Normandy Invasion, away from the races for more than a year in part because of a fractured right front sesamoid, is scheduled to return in a $36,000 allowance event July 1 at Delaware Park.
Trained by Larry Jones, Normandy Invasion, a 5-year-old Tapit horse with second-place finishes in three graded stakes, has been working nicely at Delaware Park, where Jones is based for the summer. He most recently breezed one mile in 1:38 3/5 on a fast track June 22.
"He has been training well," Jones said June 25.
Normandy Invasion finished second in the grade II Remsen Stakes at 2, second in the grade I Wood Memorial Stakes at 3, and second in the grade II New Orleans Handicap last year at 4. In his last start June 7 of last year, he finished 10th in the grade I Metropolitan Handicap.
With only two wins—one in maiden company and another in a first-level allowance race—Normandy Invasion is eligible for the July 1 race as a non-winner of two races other than maiden, claiming, or starter, as well as for the non-winners of three races lifetime condition.
The 1 1/16-mile race, which has an optional claiming condition, attracted eight horses, including local stakes winner I'm Steppin' It Up and last year's Calder Derby winner, Our Caravan.
