Veteran race caller Bill Downes has been hired on as the new voice of Wine Country Racing in Santa Rosa. Downes replaces Matt Dinerman who has quickly climbed the ranks within the trade, taking up full-time positions at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas and Monmouth Park in New Jersey. "I'm happy to hand off the baton to an experienced announcer like Bill who will do a great job for the racing fans at Santa Rosa," said Dinerman, who was reached for comment on the Jersey shore.
Director of Racing, Stacey Lapham expanded on Dinerman's words: "We are extremely fortunate that Bill became available to us," she noted in a media call earlier this week. Further adding, "Bill brings tremendous experience-not just as an on-track voice the fans will enjoy listening to-but also in his expansive career promoting the racing product to the fans."
