City of Troy wins the Derby at Epsom

Following a thrilling victory in the Epsom Derby (G1) June 1, Coolmore's City of Troy  will target the Eclipse Stakes (G1) at Sandown July 6, according to an update posted on Coolmore's website.

After suffering his first career defeat in the one-mile Two Thousand Guineas (G1) in his 3-year-old debut, the European champion 2-year-old flourished over the longer 1 1/2-mile distance of the Derby. Drawing clear to win by 2 3/4 lengths, the son of American Triple Crown winner Justify   solidified his place at the top of Europe's sophomore division.

The Eclipse Stakes will be contested over 1 1/4 miles.

Stablemate Los Angeles  suffered the first defeat in his four-race career while finishing third to City of Troy in the Derby. The son of Camelot  will break away from his fellow Aidan O'Brien trainee while attempting to win Ireland's feature classic, the Irish Derby (G1) at the Curragh June 30.

Last year's Derby winner, Auguste Rodin  will also be back to the races soon. The winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T) at Santa Anita Park Nov. 4 has yet to win this year, but bounced back off a head-scratching season debut to finish a solid second to White Birch  in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (G1) at the Curragh May 26.
