It's not unusual for a Thoroughbred to show versatility in different races.

But Juddmonte's homebred filly Accede  managed to check several boxes in winning the $200,000 Bed o' Roses Stakes (G2) for older fillies and mares June 15 at Aqueduct Racetrack.

In a single seven-furlong race, the daughter of Into Mischief   showed she can capture a graded stake a) while on the early lead; b) while prompting the pace; and c) while passing horses in the stretch.

That's a pretty full plate for 1:22.83 of running.

"I'm very proud of her," trainer Chad Brown said. "(Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.) worked out a great trip and she cooperated. The filly broke great from the gate and was a true professional throughout. She really came through today."

Out of the Mizzen Mast mare Jibboom , Accede captured her third straight race while notching an initial graded stakes triumph in posting a neck victory over Just Katherine .

The 4-year-old filly won her debut last March at Gulfstream Park, but then suffered four straight losses in stakes company before she ended 2023 with an Oct. 14 allowance win at Keeneland.

In 2024, she picked up where she left off a year ago, winning an April 24 allowance optional claimer at Keeneland before her breakthrough stakes win in the Bed o' Roses.

"The people at Juddmonte did a great job with her over the winter," Brown said. "Though she ended her year with a win at Keeneland she didn't look like a filly that would jump back into stakes. They gave her time off and sent her back to me. She looked very strong, and was moving great. Based on how she was moving all winter, I'm not surprised she's made it back to this point."

The seventh of eight foals from Jibboom, Accede is a half sister to group 3 winner Flying Jib  and her dam's third winner. Jibboom, herself a grade 2 winner, also has a yearling colt by Tacitus  , who was also bred and raced by Juddmonte.

"She's a nice, well-bred filly. She was very highly regarded when she came to me at 2," Brown said. "She always trained good, but she had some stoppages and showed some glimpses of being a really high-quality filly on the dirt. Now we finally have her in her best form and health."

Accede broke quickly and led through an opening quarter-mile in Saturday's stakes of :23.22. The 4-1 second choice ($10.20) was then second after a half-mile in :46.01 and between calls in the stretch was fourth before she kicked into high gear and edged R.T Racing Stable's Just Katherine in a lively duel to the wire.

Just Katherine, a Justify   filly trained by Jose Jimenez, rallied from seventh to finish second by three lengths over KEM Stables' Hot Fudge , a daughter of Liam's Map   trained by Linda Rice who was 10th and last after a half-mile.

Flying Connection , the 2-1 favorite, was bumped at the start and never fired while finishing fifth.

Brown said Accede would target the Aug. 24 Ballerina Handicap (G1) at Saratoga Race Course and may prep in the July 24 Honorable Miss Handicap (G2), also at the Spa.

Accede became the 75th graded stakes winner for her sire, five-time leading North American sire Into Mischief. Other grade 1 winners for the Spendthrift Farm stallion this year include Dubai World Cup (G1) winner and fellow Juddmonte homebred Laurel River , Ashland Stakes (G1) winner Leslie's Rose , and Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Newgate .
