After disappointing finishes in the June 6 Acorn Stakes (gr. I), graded stakes winners Miss Ella and Promise Me Silver will look to get back to their winning ways in the $150,000 Victory Ride Stakes (gr. III) July 4 at Belmont Park.
Both 3-year-old fillies came into the Acorn undefeated, but each experienced troubled starts and faded late. Miss Ella finished in seventh place and Promise Me Silver, who set the early pace, tired to finish 10th. Both, along with fellow graded stakes winner Irish Jasper, will carry the highweight of 123 pounds for the 6 1/2-furlong dirt test.
Robert Luttrell homebred Promise Me Silver won every one of her eight starts until the Acorn, including the Eight Belles Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs May 1, her graded debut.
Jack Swain's lightly raced homebred Miss Ella was two for two before the Acorn, after her maiden-breaking score and a win in the Adena Springs Beaumont Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland April 12.
Owner/trainer Derek Ryan's Irish Jasper enters the Victory Ride on a two-race win streak, carrying victories in the Belle Harbor Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack April 26 and the Adena Springs Miss Preakness Stakes (gr. III) at Pimlico Race Course May 15.
Kaleem Shah's stakes-winning Enchanting Lady (ninth in the Eight Belles), stakes-placed Super Saks, and allowance winner Kathballu complete the field.
