Charles Fipke's homebred grade I winner Java's War will look to return to winning form in the $150,000 Singspiel Stakes (Can-III) at Woodbine July 5, his first graded try since his 3-year-old season in 2013.
Since winning the 2013 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland, the son of War Pass has been winless in eight starts, including a 13th-place finish in that year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
Java's War didn't race at all in 2014 and struggled to hit the board in starts at Gulfstream Park, Tampa Bay Downs, and Keeneland, but has finished second and fourth in two allowance/optional claiming races since moving to Woodbine. He'll be making his sixth turf start in the 1 1/2-mile Singspiel.
The Roger Attfield trainee is the only grade I winner in the field, but fellow entrants Turkish, Aldous Snow, Dynamic Sky, and Hyper also boast graded victories.
New Zealand import Habibi, who is winless in four U.S. starts; graded stakes-placed Money Talker; and maiden winner Johnny Bear.
