Description:

Suzanne Stables' Hutcheson Stakes (gr. III) winner Barbados will waste no time getting back to business July 5, when he makes his first start off the layup in the $150,000 Carry Back Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-olds sprinting seven furlongs at Gulfstream Park.

The Speightstown   colt won three in a row while moving up rapidly through his conditions in the fall of 2014 and into 2015, breaking his maiden Oct. 16 at Keeneland, then coming back Jan. 3 to take the Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream, before winning the seven-furlong Hutcheson there Jan 24. He was sidelined by a knee chip, however, and makes his first start back for trainer Michael Tomlinson as the 121-pound highweight in this spot against 10 others. Luis Saez rides from post 8.

Another making a comeback is Juan and Bina, who last was seen finishing seventh in the Feb. 21 Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth (gr. II) after running fourth in the Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes (gr. II).

May 2 Parx Derby winner Bluegrass Singer is also in the bunch. The Crossed Sabres Farm runner is coming off a third in the June 14 Select Stakes at Monmouth Park. Bluegrass Singer, by Bluegrass Cat  , caught attention earlier this season with a third in the Holy Bull and a fourth in the Fasig-Tipton Swale Stakes (gr. II).

Stakes winners in the group include June 20 King Cugat Handicap victor My Point Exactly and Tarpon Stakes winner Royal Squeeze, who took the mile test in his last start April 25 at Gulfstream via the disqualification of Mr. Jordan. Another is Texas-bred A M Milky Way, who has earned minor stakes victories at Prairie Meadows and Sam Houston Race Park.

Allowance winners Rod McLeod, Southern Barbecue, and maiden winners Grand Bili and Sonofaderbywinner complete the field.

The Carry Back is one of four graded stakes on the July 5 Summit of Speed program at Gulfstream. The card will be highlighted by the Smile Sprint (gr. II) and Princess Rooney (gr. II), both designated "Win & You're In" Breeders' Cup Challenge events. Nine of the 12 races on the program will be stakes. First post is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET.
