Belmont Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes (G1) runner-up Mindframe emerged with bone bruising from his latest battle with Dornoch and will miss most of the remainder of the year, according to co-owner Mike Repole July 31.
Repole, who co-owns the Maryland-bred son of Constitution with St. Elias Stables, told the Daily Racing Form that Mindframe left trainer Todd Pletcher's barn at Saratoga Race Course earlier this week en route to Dr. John Madison in Ocala, Fla. Following his diagnosis, Mindframe is now resting at a farm in Ocala.
"We are told he could go back into training in 60 days," Repole told BloodHorse. "Todd may give him 90."
A 60-day return would place Mindframe back in training in early October, likely taking the Breeders' Cup off the table. Repole said the most likely scenario would be racing the colt in a December prep race for the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) at Gulfstream Park in late January.
With Mindframe out of consideration for the Aug. 24 Travers Stakes (G1), Repole said he is leaning toward running his 2023 2-year-old champion male and recent Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) winner Fierceness in the event that will play a large role in determining the division's Eclipse Award champion.
