Description:
Alliseeisgold led gate to wire to capture the $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup for Ohio-bred 3-year-olds July 4 at ThistleDown Racino.

The son of Purge entered the stretch with a five-length lead and extended his command to the finish line, winning by 6 3/4 lengths while covering the 1 1/8 miles 1:53.28 with Mario Pino aboard. The victory, accomplished while making his first attempt beyond 6 1/2 furlongs, was his first in a stakes.

Alliseeisgold broke sharply to lead immediately, easing through fractions of :24.08, :49.26 and 1:14.42 through six furlongs. Virtually unchallenged throughout, the Sharon Ruberto-trainee responded to slight urging from Pino rounding the far turn, and then, with a few light left-handed taps of the whip in the stretch drew off for the facile victory as the 2-5 favorite.

Sunshine's Son Bob and Signal Ridge battled it out in the final yards for second, with the former nabbing the place. Flip Daddy came on well in the stretch to be fourth.

The 2-5 favorite, Alliseeisgold pushed his career earnings to over $100,000 with this latest victory for owners-breeders Beechwood Racing Stable LLC and Capehart Equine. The sturdy bay, who is out of Braun 'n Gold, by Forestry, had three previous wins at six furlongs this year, including in his two most recent starts. Saturday's win improved his record to 4-0-2 from six career starts.

The Cleveland Gold Cup debuted in 1968 and was renamed in 2011 to honor the memory of Daniel C. Stearns III, a longtime Ohio veterinarian who plied his trade at Ohio racetracks. Stearns, a graduate of the Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, owned and operated the Euclid Veterinarian Hospital, Harmony Hill Farm, and was president of the Ohio-Waterford Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association (HBPA) from 1961 to 1971.  He also helped establish the OTBO and Ohio Thoroughbred Race Fund (OTRF).
