Monmouth Park canceled its eight-race card scheduled Aug. 2 due to excessive heat, the track announced.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning out of Philadelphia, warning of heat indexes that could reach 106 degrees for New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and northern Delaware. The heat advisory extends through 8 p.m. ET.

Racing is scheduled to resume Aug. 3 with the Tyro Stakes for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on the grass headlining the card. The Tyro Stakes attracted a field of seven contenders, with the Bregman Family Racing and Swinbank Stables' recent maiden winner, Governor Sam , the 9-5 morning-line favorite. The son of Improbable   is trained by George Weaver.
