So many people spend time picking out that fabulous outfit — from the shoes, to the skirt, which shirt to wear — and then finally they finish it off with trendy accessories.
Is the outfit finished? Not in January or February it isn't! You cover all that up with a coat!
Many people don't think that a coat is important, but when you walk into someone's home, or a restaurant, or the races, the first thing people see is you in your coat. So, duh, of course it's important ... it’s the wrapping around the present!
The end of summer doesn't just signify the end of tropical cocktails, or floppy sun hats, or espadrilles, it signifies the start of Fall Fashion, which opens up a whole new world.
Fall Fashion has become a huge phenomenon all over the world, bigger than spring, bigger than summer. Why? Well, simple answer: there are more articles of clothing that you can style.
Layers, fabrics, leather, boots/booties/pumps … the possibilities are endless. Heading from fall to winter, the excitement isn't there anymore. We all seem to get the ‘Winter Blues’ and it begins to show in what we wear. Well, WAKE UP! Fashion never sleeps, nor should you give it the chance to.
There is a place for Uggs and puffy Eddie Bauer jackets (speaking from experience), but there is also a place for a constructed wool coat with a fur collar and brown suede booties (also speaking from experience … thank you, Santa!). The races are one of these places.
As we can't stress enough, the horse races are the last sport with a standard of fashion. Even on a cold day, you can still dress up and be perfectly comfortable. Wearing a warm coat plays a big role in both staying warm and comfortable but also showing off your fashion personality.
If you're only a one-coat type gal, choose a neutral color that can pair with any outfit, grey, white, black or a light khaki. These jackets are timeless and can be jazzed up with colored accessories such as belts, hats, scarves, and gloves.
If you want only one jacket but can't do the solid color, go for a patterned jacket but with those neutral colors. A herringbone style is a standout piece but can be paired with any outfit and looks great against a pop of color. Also, every designer/company has a different herringbone style, so you won't look the same next to a girl with the similar pattern.
Buying more than one jacket this year? Make your second choice a "ballsy" one — bright, bold color!
Or find a killer pattern that will make people look twice!
Bright pink or yellow make any cold, cloudy day a brighter experience. Even better, pair this colorful coat with a fur collar, like Elizabeth Hurley at the races in Ireland.
Add a jewelled belt for some added pizazz, like First Lady Michelle Obama.
Only then can you call yourself a "Race Fashionista" from the inside and out!
Coats aren't just material to keep you warmer, they are an added fashion accessory to give you another chance to make yourself stand out and express yourself through fashion.
Don't think ‘puff is enough,’ instead pick a dressy coat to go with your dressy outfit at the races. Besides, why should the horses get all the attention? ;)
