After delivering her sire his first black-type stakes win, Vodka With a Twist looks to register her third win in a row, heading west for the Aug. 10 Sorrento Stakes (G3) at Del Mar.
Having fallen short in a hotly contested maiden race, the daughter of Thousand Words , who has run thrice in Kentucky, tallied her first win by a length at Churchill Downs against a field of first-time runners. She then served up a gate-to-wire victory in the Debutante Stakes under the twin spires.
The $150,000 six-furlong challenge for 2-year-old fillies will be filled with tough competitors that will test Phil D'Amato's trainee.
Trainer Bob Baffert brings a pair of his students who have made easy work of the competition in their debuts.
Zedan Racing Stables' Nooni , a Florida-bred daughter of Win Win Win , broke her maiden June 13 at Santa Anita Park with a 9 1/2-length romp over five furlongs. Nooni will be under Juan Hernandez who as of Aug. 8 is the leading jockey at Del Mar.
Baffert's other entry, Casalu , broke her maiden over the Del Mar dirt July 21 with a 5 1/2-length margin of victory for owners Michael Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman.
Not to be outshined is Mrs. John Magnier and Mrs. Paul Shanahan's White Sands .
The Into Mischief half sister to Jackie's Warrior trained by Wesley Ward broke her maiden by 9 1/2 lengths at Belterra Park before taking the Prairie Gold Juvenile Stakes at Prairie Meadows by 13 3/4 lengths.
WSS Racing's Night Beacon rounds out the field. She won on debut at Santa Anita May 10. She posted a bullet work at Del Mar Aug. 3, going five furlongs in :58 4/5.
