Beauty Bark became the first winner for Washington-based first-crop stallion Barkley in capturing her debut by 4 1/2 lengths in a $24,200 maiden race at Emerald Downs Aug. 10.
Fourth early, Beauty Bark took the lead three-eighths of a mile into the 5 1/2-furlong race and pulled clear down the lane in the afternoon's fourth race. She was timed in 1:05.11 on a fast track and paid $12.34 to win. Isaias Enriquez was aboard for trainer Kay Cooper.
A Washington-bred bay filly out of the Nationhood mare Arlington Lady , Beauty Bark races for Parrot Head Racing. The Robert Donnell-bred filly was bought for $10,000 by Derek Boney at the 2023 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Yearling and Mixed Sale from the Blue Ribbon Farm consignment.
With earnings of $13,680, Beauty Bark is now Barkley's leading money earner from his initial crop of 14 2-year-olds, passing Impassable ($11,800), who earned black type with a runner-up finish in her second start while racing as a maiden in the W.T.B.O.A. Lads Stakes at Emerald.
Barkley, an 11-year-old son of Munnings , also raced in the Pacific Northwest, where he won 10 of 20 starts and $368,425. He won his initial six starts and later in his career took the 2018 Longacres Mile Handicap (G3) at Emerald.
He stood this past season for a $2,000 fee at El Dorado Farms in Washington.
