Grade 1 winner Ceiling Crusher was a $22,000 purchase at the 2021 Northern California Yearling Sale

Looking for a racehorse like Chancery Way, Ceiling Crusher or Yo Yo Candy? Those multiple stakes winners are among recent graduates of the CTBA's Northern California Yearling Sale, with the 2024 edition of the sale coming up this Tuesday, August 13, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.

Chancery Way, purchased for only $6,500 out of the Harris Farms consignment, has career earnings of more than $415,000 with five stakes wins, including a repeat victory in last month's Governor's Cup at Sacramento.

Ceiling Crusher, a $22,000 purchase also out of the Harris Farms consignment, won six of seven starts, including the Grade I Cotillion Stakes, with earnings of $938,400, then sold for $750,000.

Yo Yo Candy, a $6,000 purchase out of the Checkmate Thoroughbreds consignment, won the $175,000 Grade III Sanford Stakes at Saratoga last summer.

Values like that are a staple of the Northern California Yearling Sale. In recent years, graded winner Freeport Joe and stakes winners Take the One O One, Big Fish, Kid Corleone, Opening Buzz, Camino Del Paraiso and Minister of Soul were among Northern California Yearling Sale graduates that turned modest investments into six-figure windfalls.
