Surveillance wins the Troy Stakes, downgraded to a grade 3, at Saratoga Race Course

The stakes status of the Troy Stakes (G3) and the Galway Stakes, both off-the-turf editions run Aug. 10 at Saratoga Race Course, will remain downgraded due to being moved to the main track, according to the American Graded Stakes Committee.

Any turf stakes is automatically downgraded by one level when it is moved off the grass. The race is then reviewed by the AGSC to see if it warrants having its original stakes status restored.

The Troy Stakes, a 5 1/2-furlong race for 4-year-olds and up, will remain downgraded to a grade 3. Surveillance , a 7-year-old Constitution   gelding, won this year's Troy, which was his first graded stakes win and his fourth career black-type win. He won by 3 1/4 lengths as the favorite over Outlaw Kid . Step Forward  was third.

The Galway, also run at 5 1/2 furlongs for 3-year-old fillies, was originally a listed stakes but will now be recorded as a non-listed black-type stakes. Halina's Forte , a daughter of Mitole  , won the Galway and captured her second black-type stakes win for the year. Prior to the Galway, she ran third in the Victory Ride Stakes (G3) on the main track at Aqueduct Racetrack. Baraye  was second by a head in the Galway and Value Area  was third.
