Two 'Super Saturdays' for Belmont Fall Meet

The 38-day fall championship meet at Belmont Park will two "Super Saturday" programs with 11 graded stakes worth a combined $4.2 million Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, the New York Racing Association said July 6.
In all, 40 stakes worth $10.6 million will be offered during the meet, which runs from Sept. 11-Nov. 1.
A pair of "Win and You're In" races for the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships to be held at Keeneland Oct. 30-31 will anchor the card Sept. 26: the $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (gr. IT) in the Turf division and the $400,000 Vosburgh Handicap (gr. I) in the Sprint division. Also on the card are the $400,000 Beldame Stakes (gr. I) for fillies and mares, the Gallant Bloom Handicap (gr. II) for filly and mare sprinters, and the $200,000 Pilgrim (gr. IIIT) for juveniles on the grass.
The lead-up to the Breeders' Cup will continue Oct. 3 with the centerpiece of the fall meet, the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I). The 1 1/4-mile Gold Cup, which offers automatic entry and a fees-paid trip to the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), is one of four "Win and You're In" races on the card.
Rounding out the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races are the grade I, $500,000 Flower Bowl Invitational (Filly & Mare Turf division), the grade I, $500,000 Foxwoods Champagne (Juvenile division), and the grade I, $400,000 Frizette Stakes (Juvenile Fillies division). The $400,000 Kelso Handicap (gr. II) at a mile and the $500,000 Hill Prince Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-olds on the turf complete the graded stakes on the card.
"With the Breeders' Cup scheduled at the end of October, it afforded us the opportunity to present two blockbuster days of racing instead of one," Martin Panza, NYRA senior vice president of racing operations, said in a release. "We anticipate both to be must-see days at Belmont Park this fall."
On Oct. 24, New York-bred runners will compete in eight stakes valued at $1.75 million, including the $300,000 Empire Classic.
The fall/winter meet at Aqueduct Racetrack kicks off Nov. 4. The highlight of the meet will come Nov. 28, which is being called Cigar Mile day. The card will offer the $500,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I), $300,000 Comely Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-old fillies, and two grade II events for 2-year-olds: the $300,000 Remsen Stakes for males and the $300,000 Demoiselle Stakes for fillies.
