Colt First Winner for U.S. Champ Cape Blanco

Description:
Cape Blanco, champion turf male of 2011 and a former central Kentucky stallion, was represented by his first winner July 7 when son Indrapura won the third race at Brighton racecourse in England.

An 8-year-old son of Galileo, Cape Blanco stood at JBBA Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan for the first time during the 2015 season. He previously stood at Coolmore's Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. from the launch of his stallion career in 2012 and shuttled to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand. He has 165 current 2-year-olds.

Trained by Paul Cole for owner Sultan Ahmad Shah, Indrapura chased two front-runners in the seven-furlong maiden special weight race, seized the lead inside the final furlong, and stayed on for a 1 3/4-length triumph while finishing in 1:25.57 on firm turf. Bred in Ireland by Ruskerne from Irish group III-placed A Mind of Her Own, by Danehill Dancer, Cole's son and assistant Ollie Cole bought him from The Castlebridge Consignment for £43,000 (US$71,260) at the 2014 Doncaster premier yearling sale.

Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, Fitri Hay, and Susan Magnier's Cape Blanco won three grade I turf stakes in the U.S. in 2011, the Arlington Million, Man o' War Stakes, and Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational to secure the turf male Eclipse Award. He also won the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (Ire-I) and Tattersalls Million Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-I) in 2010. He retired after the 2011 season with more than $3.8 million in earnings.
