Grade I Winner Streaming Suffers Knee Chip

Streaming, winner of the 2013 Hollywood Starlet Stakes (gr. I), will undergo surgery to remove a chip in her left knee suffered in the Feb. 22 Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds Race Course, trainer Bob Baffert said Feb. 24.
Owned and bred by Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Edward McGhee, the Kentucky-bred daughter of Smart Strike–Teeming, by Storm Cat, was sent off as the 3-2 favorite in the 1 1/16-mile Rachel Alexandra, but tired badly after setting the early fractions, finishing seventh, beaten 19 1/2 lengths.
“After the race she had heat in her knee and it was discovered she had a chip that needs to come out.,” Baffert said. “It’s really a shame, because we were looking forward to running her in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I).”
Streaming began her career last year with an impressive maiden victory going six furlongs at BetFair Hollywood Park, and then followed that up with a 1 1/2-length score in the 1 1/16-mile Hollywood Starlet, defeating among others Untapable, who romped in the Rachel Alexandra.
Making her first start at 3, Streaming was sent off as the even-money choice in the one-mile Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) Feb. 1, but was beaten a half-length by Fashion Plate, to whom she was conceding five pounds.
Baffert gave her a pair of solid five-furlong works before shipping her to Fair Grounds.
After she gets some time off to recuperate, Baffert hopes to have her back better than ever.
