Sacrosanct wins the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack

Freshman sire Honest Mischief   was represented by his first stakes winner Sept. 22 as Sacrosanct  ran away from his competition to win the $125,000 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack by 12 lengths.

Bet as the 6-5 favorite following an impressive 3 1/4-length debut win at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 21, the 2-year-old bay colt was sent to the front by Manny Franco, opened a large lead coming out of the turn, then cruised to a geared-down victory; completing seven furlongs in 1:24.35 on a fast track.

"He's been training super since he came back from Saratoga," said Dustin Dugas, an assistant to trainer Brad Cox. "Brad always thought he could stretch out and he did it with ease today."

The colt is now 2-for-2 with earnings of $118,250 for Lady Sheila Stable, Net Birdie, and Schwing Thoroughbreds.

A homebred for Juddmonte, Honest Mischief was a four-time winner in nine starts for earnings of $287,464. At age 3 in 2019, the Chad Brown trainee won the listed City of Laurel Stakes at Laurel Park and placed in the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga. At age 4, he finished second in the listed Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs.
