Robert Marzilli's Caren, a 2-year-old filly and first winner for the stallion Society's Chairman, will look to replicate her debut success in the $150,000 Shady Well Stakes July 12 at Woodbine.
The 5 1/2-furlong test for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies will be the second career start for the Michael De Paulo trainee, who won impressively (2 3/4 lengths) in her first, a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event over Woodbine's synthetic track, at odds of 7-2.
BLOOD-HORSE STAFF: Caren First Winner for Society's Chairman
Jockey Jesse Campbell will return to ride the filly and the pair will break from post 6 in the field of seven.
Brad Auger's homebred Miss Metropolitan and Anderson Farms Ontario's homebred Get Rhythm, owned in partnership with Kingview Farms, Sean Fitzhenry, and John Fielding, are the only other winners in the field. Both took 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight races by three-quarters of a length at Woodbine. Get Rhythm won her debut June 20, while Miss Metropolitan will be turning around more quickly after her debut victory July 4 for trainer Ralph Biamonte.
Conquest Stables' Conquest City Girl looms, however, following a fifth place finish in her first race, the six-furlong Victoria Stakes on the Woodbine turf June 20. The Mark Casse-trained daughter of City Zip is the only filly in the field with stakes experience.
Conquest City Girl was purchased by Conquest Stables for $525,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s 2015 March sale of 2-year-olds in training.
