Impressive Maiden Winner Senza Parole Tops Frizette

Trainer Chad Brown only needed a single word to express all of the talent and potential he sees in Senza Parole .

He said it when the four-time Eclipse Award winner was asked if he was surprised by the dazzling 7 3/4-length victory the 2-year-old filly registered in her Aug. 23 career debut at Saratoga Race Course.

That word?

"No."

"I felt she had that type of capability," Brown continued. "She had trained really well and it's nice to see a horse run to its works. She was brilliant in the morning and was the same way in the afternoon."

Off a victory that was highly impressive both visually and in terms of speed figures, Senza Parole figures to be favored when she makes the jump into top-level competition, facing nine rivals in the $400,000 Frizette Stakes (G1) for 2-year-old fillies Oct. 5 at Aqueduct Racetrack.

As a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series event, the Frizette offers an automatic, fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) to the winner. The Don Alberto Stable homebred daughter of Gun Runner   will be asked to stretch out from six furlongs to a one-turn mile in her acid test for the Nov. 1 World Championships at Del Mar. 

Out of the Street Cry mare Senza Te , Senza Parole posted some electrifying speed figures in her debut, registering a 94 Beyer Speed Figure and Equibase Speed Figure, and a single-digit Ragozin number for covering the six furlongs in 1:09.84. On Saturday, how she handles the added quarter-mile will have a big say in her prospects for the Juvenile Fillies at a longer 1 1/16-mile distance.

"She's bred to stretch out and she gives us the impression she will," Brown said. 'She's not a big horse, but she has a lot of speed. She's only raced once so it was never a consideration to run her anywhere but the Frizette."

While Senza Parole will be making her stakes debut, the field also includes one proven graded stakes winner.

After cross-entering multiple stakes winner The Queens M G  in both the Frizette and the 1 1/16-mile Oct. 4 Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. says the daughter of Thousand Words   will remain in New York to face Brown's buzzsaw.

"I feel the Frizette is the right spot for her. It's a shorter trip to Aqueduct than it is to Kentucky and it looks like it will be a dry track," Joseph said. "I know Chad's filly is in a class of her own, but they still have to run the race."

Owned by C Two Racing Stable and Mathis Stable, The Queens M G posted a stunning 44-1 upset on opening day at Saratoga when she took the Schuylerville Stakes. She then produced an even better performance at the Spa when she cruised to a nine-length win in the Adirondack Stakes (G3).

In her initial try in grade 1 company, she ran into a muddy track for the seven-furlong Spinaway Stakes (G1) and weakened in the stretch to finish fifth behind Immersive , who is entered in the Alcibiades.

"We can't control a wet track," Joseph said. "She had a lot of pace pressure and came up empty. We'd like to think it was the slop but the next race will tell us. She's worked well since."

The lineup also includes DeSales Eighty-Five's Icona Mama , a Pennsylvania-bred Maximus Mischief   filly trained by Flint Stites who was third, three-quarters of a length behind, in the Pocahontas Stakes (G3), and the undefeated Social Fortress . A daughter of Social Inclusion  bred in Florida, she is 2-for-2 for trainer Jamie Ness and is coming off a win in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park.

There are also two debut winners making their second start in Paradise City  (McKinzie  ) and Another Cleeshay  (Volatile  ).

In addition to being part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, the Frizette offers points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks to the top five finishers on a 10-5-3-2-1 scale.
