Description:

Jockey Rajiv Maragh remained hospitalized at North Shore Hospital July 11 as a result of injuries sustained during a spill the previous day at Belmont Park.

The native of Jamaica said on Twitter that he had several fractured verterbrae in his back, a broken rib, and a tiny lung puncture. He later reported on Twitter that he would not require sugery.

Maragh was injured during the fifth race, when Mini Muffin, ridden by Ruben Silvera, veered into the path of Yourcreditisgood, with Maragh aboard. Yourcreditisgood clipped the heels of Mini Muffin and fell hard, unseating Maragh.

Yourcreditisgood, who was racing for a claiming price of $25,000 for trainer Joseph Orseno, ran off and was eventually caught by an outrider.

Mini Muffin finished fifth in the 6 1/2-furlong race, but was disqualified and unplaced as a result of the incident.
