Nysos wins the Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita Park

Unbeaten 3-year-old colt Nysos , sidelined since winning the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) in February at Santa Anita Park, and royally bred 3-year-old Eagles Flight  each returned to the work tab Oct. 10 at Santa Anita. Also working towards a comeback was grade 1 winner Tamara  for trainer Richard Mandella.

Nysos, trained by Bob Baffert, drilled four furlongs with company in :47 3/5. Eagles Flight, a half brother to 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline  , was clocked going a quarter-mile in :23 1/5 for trainer John Sadler. Tamara, off since last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, worked four furlongs in :48 1/5.

Nysos is a perfect 3-for-3 with $216,600 in earnings for owner Baoma. The son of Nyquist   was a debut winner at Santa Anita last October and returned to win the Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar in November. When making his two-turn debut in the one-mile Lewis, Nysos romped by 7 1/2 lengths under Flavien Prat.

The short work by Eagles Flight was his first since June 10 at Santa Anita. By 2007-08 Horse of the Year Curlin   out of graded stakes winner Feathered , Eagles Flight debuted May 27 going six furlongs at Santa Anita and promptly scored by 2 3/4 lengths under Prat. He is campaigned by Hronis Racing, breeder Summer Wind Equine, and William Farish.

Flightline, by Tapit  , was undefeated in six starts, including four grade 1s, and earned $4,514,800. He capped his racing career with a victory in the 2022 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland. Flightline is now a stallion at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky where he stood the 2024 season for a $150,000 fee.

Tamara hasn't raced since finishing seventh as the favorite in last November's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita. She emerged from the effort with a small fracture in her left hind splint bone, which did not require surgery. Prior to the Breeders' Cup, Tamara won the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1).

Since Aug. 22, a span of seven weeks, Tamara has worked five times either at Del Mar or Santa Anita. By Bolt d'Oro  , Tamara is out of four-time champion Beholder , who was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2022.
