The remarkably consistent Siege of Boston eyes his moment in the sun in the Oct. 13 $175,000 Knickerbocker Stakes (G3T) during the Belmont at the Big A meet.
Trained by Jimmy Toner for Allen Stable, Siege of Boston has finished worse than fourth only once in eight tries in stakes company. The 5-year-old son of War Front has been knocking on the door all season, chalking up placings in the Tampa Bay Stakes (G3T), Canadian Turf Stakes (G3T), Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Cup Stakes, and most recently, a third-place effort in the Aug. 29 Tapit Stakes at Kentucky Downs. He's registered four triple-digit Equibase Speed Figures in his last five starts.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, the Fair Hill shipper tackles five other runners in Sunday's 1 1/8-mile turf contest for 3-year-olds and up.
Fellow Kentucky Downs alum Reckoning Force could be the stiffest opponent to Siege of Boston. The Brendan Walsh trainee vans into New York off a troubled fourth-place finish behind Goliad going a mile in the Sept. 7 Mint Millions Stakes (G3T). Owned by the partnership of Qatar Racing, Marc Detampel, and Fergus Galvin, the Air Force Blue gelding should find the stretch-out in trip to his liking. He was victorious in a 1 3/16-mile turf allowance optional claimer at Saratoga Race Course two starts back.
Fort Washington , a winner of the Monmouth Stakes (G3T) in June, West Coast shipper Irish Prophet , and the Chad Brown-trained duo of Andthewinneris and Redistricting fill out the field.
