Making his second start following a long layoff, Quiet Force showed plenty of determination in the stretch for a hard-fought, three-quarter-length victory in the $100,000 Arlington Handicap on Saturday at Arlington Park.
The Grade 3 race serves as the key local prep race for the Grade 1 Arlington Million on Aug. 15.
Trained by Mike Maker for owner Warner Thoroughbreds, the 5-year-old by Dynaformer finished third on May 26 in his first race since July 2, 2014, when he earned his first stakes win at Indiana Downs. In his second start following the extended break, Quiet Force fought off Middleburg in deep stretch to pick up his first graded stakes win in the Arlington Handicap.
Dramedy set an easy pace through three-quarters of a mile in 1:13.34 with Quiet Force tracking throughout from second under Julien Leparoux.
“On paper it didn’t look like too much pace so I just wanted to make sure he broke good and actually when [Dramedy] went it was great for us,” Leparoux said. “We got a target and finished up strong.”
Quiet Force took charge entering the stretch in the 1 3/16-mile turf race and turned back both 11-to-10 favorite Up With the Birds and runner-up Middleburg to prevail at 5.20-to-1 odds.
Quiet Force improved to six wins in 13 career starts and boosted his career earnings to $247,870.
