Trikari wins the Secretariat Stakes at Colonial Downs

A deep field of 3-year-olds, led by favored Trikari , is set to take their shot at the $600,000 Bryan Station Stakes (G3T) at Keeneland Oct. 26.

The Kentucky-bred son of Oscar Performance   is the 2-1 morning line choice despite one win in three attempts at the Saturday's mile distance on turf. He most recently finished 1 1/2 lengths back in fourth in the City of Hope Mile Stakes (G2T) at Santa Anita Park when facing older horses. His other two starts at a mile came against 3-year-olds, resulting in a win in the Secretariat Stakes (G2T) and a third by a neck in the Penn Mile (G3T). Graham Motion trains the $1.3 million earner for Amerman Racing Stables.

Among his challengers is the race's other millionaire, recent Gun Runner Stakes winner Brilliant Berti  (7-2 odds). The Cherie DeVaux trainee and Klein Racing homebred has a better mark at the mile (2-1-0 from three starts), but that second came in the Secretariat Stakes, where he was beaten 2 1/4 lengths by Trikari.

Starting from the inside post is Red White and Blue Racing's Neat  (8-1 odds), 3-for-4 at the distance. He was third, 1 3/4 lengths back of Brilliant Berti, in the Sept. 8 Gun Runner Stakes at Kentucky Downs. In his other starts at a mile, he captured the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T), Manila Stakes (G3T), and the Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile Stakes for trainer Rob Atras.
