Into Mischief Leads Sires in Breeders' Cup Pre-Entries

With eight horses pre-entered in the 2024 Breeders' Cup, five-time leading sire Into Mischief  , who currently sits atop the current general sires list, will be well positioned to add to his earnings total at the World Championships.

Into Mischief, who will stand the 2025 season for $250,000 at Spendthrift Farm near Lexington, leads all sires with eight horses pre-entered in this year's Breeders' Cup. The diverse group of eight points to Into Mischief's versatility as the horses are a mix of male and female, range in age from 2-5, and are pre-entered in dirt and turf races with the lengths of those events varying from five furlongs to 1 1/4 miles.

Potential Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) starters for Into Mischief include Pyrenees , who is on the race's also-eligible list off back-to-back grade 1 placings, and Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Newgate  . After recently winning the First Lady Stakes (G1T) a second straight year, Gina Romantica  again will take on males in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T), where she'll try to improve on last year's fourth-place finish.

Top juveniles for Into Mischief include Citizen Bull , who enters the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) off a victory in the American Pharoah Stakes (G1), and maiden winner Acquitted , who is among the also-eligibles for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T).

The other three Into Mischief runners are Meta Max, a grade 3-placed runner in Japan entered in the Sprint (G1); Coppola , a multiple stakes winner on the also-eligible list for the Turf Sprint (G1T); and Musical Mischief , a grade 2 winner entered in the Distaff (G1).

Into Mischief ranks sixth on the all-time earnings list for leading Breeders' Cup sires at $9.28 million and his seven winners are tied for second-most. 

Second in pre-entries this year is Not This Time  , who will try to land his first Breeders' Cup winner from a group of seven potential runners. Leading that group for the sire who will stand the 2025 season for $175,000 at Taylor Made Stallions is grade 1 winner and likely Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) favorite Cogburn . 

Not This Time's other runners include Arzak  in the Turf Sprint, Dream On  in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T), Next  in the Classic (Breeders' Cup Turf [G1T] second preference), Abientot  is an also-eligible for the Juvenile Fillies Turf, Shareholder is pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T), and Tenacious Leader  in the Juvenile Turf.

While Not This Time looks to break through this year, Curlin  , who leads all sires with eight Breeders' Cup winners, will try to add to that total as he has five sons and daughters pre-entered. Leading the way for the stallion who will stand the 2025 season for $225,000 at Hill 'n' Dale Farms is 2023 champion older female Idiomatic , who will try to defend her title in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).

Other horses by Curlin pre-entered include Getaway Car  in the Juvenile, Raging Sea  in the Distaff, Highland Falls  in the Classic, and Zeitlos  in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).

Other sires with five horses pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup include Good Magic  , Gun Runner  , Justify  , Munnings  , No Nay Never , and Tapit  .
