Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has canceled its live racing program scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27, because of expected harsh weather conditions.
The National Weather Service currently calls for the wind chill to range between 7 and 12 degrees during the hours in which the program would be conducted.
"For the benefit of the horses, horsemen, and everyone involved, we thought it was best to cancel the card for tonight seeing the temperatures expected," said chief steward Danny Wright in a release. "The riders gave the indication last night and this morning that they couldn't guarantee getting through the card tonight. We wanted to get through a full card and we didn't think it would happen."
The track will remain open for simulcasting, with the next day of live racing scheduled for Feb. 28.
