Description:

All proceeds generated as a result of Xpressbet customers wagering on Assiniboia Downs on the Saturday, July 18, card, will be donated by the online betting company to the trust of injured jockey Alyssa Selman.

Selman, a 29-year old mother of two, remains paralyzed from the waist down and is receiving care at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre, according to Xpressbet. Selman was injured July 27 during the sixth race at Assiniboia when her mount, Lord Jasmond, clipped heels and fell. The ride was thrown to the track and suffered a severe back injury. She underwent surgery for a fractured T5 vertebra and damaged spinal cord.

According to Xpressbet, Selman's mother said doctors have warned her that the jockey may never walk again.

"We were very touched to learn about Alyssa's story and we are committed to helping in any way we can," said Xpressbet president Ron Luniewski. "Alyssa is in our thoughts and our entire organization is pulling for her to make a full recovery. We urge our customers to consider donating to Alyssa's trust and hope they'll consider playing the races from Assiniboia on July 18 as all proceeds will go directly to her trust."

Xpressbet is a partner and supporter of the Jockeys' Guild and Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, which currently provides financial assistance to 61 former jockeys who suffered catastrophic on-track injuries.

A Go Fund Me page was set up on Alyssa's behalf by Assiniboia Downs. Donations can be made at http://www.gofundme.com/yp4m8g4d5.

First post July 18 at Assiniboia Downs is 8 p.m. ET.
