Ten Broeck Farm’s grade I winner Sunset Glow will return to Del Mar July 16, where she recorded both of her graded stakes scores, but will try the seaside turf course for the first time in the $200,000 San Clemente Handicap (gr. IIT).
The 3-year-old Exchange Rate filly won the Sorrento Stakes (gr. II) and Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) on Del Mar’s synthetic track last August, but hasn’t been in the winner’s circle since.
All three races following the Wesley Ward trainee’s success at Del Mar were on the grass, including a second-place finish to Lady Eli in last year’s Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (gr. IT).
Jockey Gary Stevens will be aboard for the first time and Sunset Glow will break from post 2 in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies going a mile on the turf.
Others have more recent success than Sunset Glow, albeit with less class.
DP Racing’s Prize Exhibit won her first graded event in her previous start June 27 in the Senorita Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Santa Anita Park, where she closed from ninth to win the mile turf event by 2 1/4 lengths.

Three other horses are coming into the San Clemente off wins at lower levels, including Moyo Honey, Paulina's Love, and Her Emmynency, whose only blemish in four starts is a neck second to Sunset Glow in the Del Mar Debutante.
Allowance/optional claiming winners Screaming Skylar and Campionessa Dolce, along with maiden claiming winner Pammy Whammy, complete the field.
