Dec. 3 is "Giving Tuesday," a day that celebrates generosity around the world. Several organizations within the Thoroughbred industry are seeking donations on the charitable day. Messages from these organizations can be found below:

Backside Learning Center — Louisville, Ky.

This year, we are collecting funds for holiday baskets for 200 of our community members to help make the season a little brighter.

We hope to raise $5,000 to fill baskets with winter gear hats, gloves, scarves, books (click here to see Carmichael's Wish List), ingredients for a holiday meal, and an educational game.

Thanks to your support, we were fortunate to provide holiday baskets for our families last year at our community holiday party. This year, we need your help to carry out our annual tradition.

Join this global celebration of generosity! Consider adding Backside Learning Center to your #GivingTuesday list of organizations. This will help us in our mission of partnering with and advocating for the equine workers and families who are the heart and backbone of the horse racing industry.

Temple Gwathmey Steeplechase Foundation — Elkton, Md.

Today is Giving Tuesday, when nonprofits across the country are asking you for donations. And while, YES, we're not ashamed to tell you that TGSF is pretty far behind on our 2024 fundraising goals and we may well end up in the red if donations don't make a HUGE move in the stretch in the month of December... we appreciate the fact that giving away your dollars may not be feasible right now. Or maybe you've committed your giving to another organization. (But, hey, if donating has just slipped your mind thus far - HERE'S WHERE TO DONATE.)

Really at the end of the day the mission of TGSF is to promote the sport. And we could use your help there, too. How, you ask?

  • Save the date for your local Point to Point or NSA sanctioned meet.
  • When you see something on your social media feed about the sport—share it.
  • When the NSA 2025 memberships are available for the 2025 season - buy one.
  • Write a note, buy a gift, photo, or art.
  • Tell a story, or help us tell a story.
  • Got complaints? Got suggestions? GET INVOLVED! Every single race meet needs volunteers.

Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga — Saratoga Springs, NY.

Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga is raising money TODAY to support the care of our 27 beloved horses, and there's still time to make a difference this Giving Tuesday! Every dollar raised today is designated specifically for the costs associated with keeping our herd happy and healthy.

Your donations directly support essential care such as vet visits, farrier services, high-quality grain, supplements, and the supplies needed to ensure our horses thrive. By caring for our horses, we're able to share their healing magic with even more individuals in our community.

Friends of our herd have already pledged to support our mission. Will you join them by making a $20 gift today?

Our goal for this year's Giving Tuesday campaign is to raise $5,000 (in one day!)--enough to cover an entire year of care for one horse. Each $20 gift brings us closer to this important milestone and makes a tangible impact. Will you help us reach our goal and be part of the herd's journey today?

Thank you for believing in the magic of our horses and the work we do at THS!

Unbridled Thoroughbred Foundation — Greenville, NY.

Unbridled Sanctuary is more than a refuge; it's a lifeline. A second chance for horses, donkeys, and mules with nowhere else to go. On any given day, 65 precious souls rely on Unbridled to protect them in a safe space to heal, recover, and rediscover trust. But until we eliminate our $250,000 mortgage, this Sanctuary isn't truly theirs.

These incredible beings, mares like Miss Ruud whose story represents so many more who are trapped and pleading for their lives, deserve a place they'll never lose, no matter what. By paying off this debt, we can protect not only the equines here today but also the countless others who will one day need a lifeline--a safe haven to rest their weary bones, to reclaim their dignity, and to always be able to call home.
