Description:

Jockey Trevor McCarthy was transported to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J. after his mount Calypso Run clipped heels and unseated the 21-year-old journeyman in Monmouth Park’s 10th race July 19.

“He went for further neurological testing,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, the medical director for the racetrack, “which will include a CAT scan of the brain and other tests. He was complaining of a severe headache, so I sent him for extra testing.”

McCarthy, a native of Wilmington, Del., was unseated as Calypso Run moved up along the rail at the top of the stretch in Monmouth’s $70,000 Miss Woodford Stakes.

Prior to Sunday’s incident, McCarthy had 25 winners from 165 mounts, good for fourth in the overall Monmouth standings.
