Godolphin's homebred Immersive swept to the title for the champion 2-year-old female with a flawless 4-for-4 campaign in 2024.
The honor gave Godolphin its first Eclipse Award for 2-year-old filly since Tempera took up the honor in 2001. Like Tempera, Immersive's championship season culminated with a decisive victory in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 1 at Del Mar. The Breeders' Cup was the third grade 1 win in a little more than two months for the daughter of Nyquist .
"She is a special filly. We liked her all along," said Michael Banahan, Godolphin USA's director of bloodstock. "I think the Breeders’ Cup was probably her most impressive race, and I think just getting her able to stretch out that there was a nice fast pace in the race and the further she went, the better."
Immersive made the first two starts of her career at Saratoga Race Course for trainer Brad Cox . The filly rolled to a workmanlike debut score under jockey Manny Franco going six furlongs July 21 before stretching to seven furlongs in the Aug. 31 Spinaway Stakes (G1). Dismissed at odds of 12-1 in her stakes unveiling in a muddy edition of the Spinaway, Immersive rallied six-wide turning for home and reeled in race favorite Quietside for grade 1 win number one.
In those first two outings, the talented bay showed a ratability and turn of foot that would serve her well in the testing two-turn races later in the season.
Stretched out to 1 1/16 miles for the first time in Keeneland's Alcibiades Stakes (G1), Immersive passed the two-turn test with ease, outkicking her rivals to the wire by 1 1/4 lengths in her final prep before the Breeders' Cup.
Success in the Breeders' Cup was never in doubt for Immersive, who shipped out to Southern California and put on her best performance yet with regular passenger Franco aboard. The filly's perfect record remained intact and she ended the year with $1,622,700 in earnings.
Following Immersive's dominating 4 1/2-length tally in the Breeders' Cup, Cox was quick to call her the best 2-year-old filly he's ever trained.
"We've not had one win three grade 1s at 2," said Cox. "Excited about what she's accomplished, proud of her, and looking forward to next year."
Immersive became the second winner produced by her dam, Godolphin homebred Gap Year . A daughter of Godolphin's stalwart stallion Bernardini, Gap Year is out of the grade 1-winning sprinter Dubai Escapade (Awesome Again), who Godolphin had purchased for $2 million as a 2-year-old in 2004. In sealing her Eclipse Award, Immersive gave Darley Stud stallion Nyquist his second champion 2-year-old filly following Vequist in 2020. The 2015 champion 2-year-old male and 2016 Kentucky Derby (G1) completed a banner year in 2024, siring four grade 1 winners.
