Spirit Wind , a multiple graded stakes winner of more than $730,000, was sold post-RNA March 19 for $500,000 to Willingham Stud. Spirit Wind was initially not sold on final bid of $450,000 in the Fasig-Tipton March Digital Sale that closed March 18.
Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned the 6-year-old mare, whose marquee win came in the Honorable Miss Handicap (G2) at Saratoga Race Course last summer.
Her $500,000 sale makes Spirit Wind the highest-priced horse offered in the March Digital Sale, pushing gross receipts to $3,642,500. She led a trio of graded or group stakes-winning fillies or mares offered in the auction, which accounted for the three highest-priced horses sold. R Harper Rose , winner of the 2024 Forward Gal Stakes (G3), sold for $400,000 to Chatsworth Stud in Australia; and French group winner Laulne sold for $320,000 to Franklin Finance, Haras d'Etreham, and Madaket Stable.
"We are very pleased with the results of our March Digital sale," said Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton director of digital sales. "We had an 85% clearance rate and sold top-end horses to buyers all over the world. Gross was up nearly 50% from last year and all segments of the market were very well represented. Very solid sale."
Fasig-Tipton Digital's next scheduled auction is the April Digital Sale, to take place April 3-8. Entries close March 24.
