Lot 351, a Pinatubo colt, brings AU$290,000 (US$182,700) at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale

On the second and final day of the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale March 25, a colt from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of 2019 champion European juvenile male Pinatubo  topped the sale when selling for AU$290,000 (US$182,700, US$1=AU$0.63).

The sale, delayed by two weeks because of weather, saw similar numbers to 2024 as average improved from AU$33,320 to AU$34,635 (US$21,820) while the median declined from AU$28,000 to AU$25,000 (US$15,750). The gross was AU$8,312,500 (US$5,236,875) from 240 horses to change hands. The clearance rate was 73.17%.

As for the sale topper, the second living foal of the winning I Am Invincible  mare Of The Day, the colt was consigned by KBL Thoroughbreds, as agent for his breeder Peachester Lodge. The team from First Light Racing joined with trainer Tony Gollan and bloodstock agent John Foote to secure the sale-topping youngster.

Of The Day, who won five races at metropolitan level and earned more than AU$240,000, is a full sister to group 3 winner Most Important—a five-time stakes winner and earner of more than AU$1 million.

"We thought he was the colt of the sale," said Gollan Racing general manager Andrew Dunemann. "It's a really good family, a good Queensland family.

"This is a sale we always want to be involved in. The QTIS bonus structure is probably the best in Australia—for us it's a no-brainer for us to buy at this sale."

The Magic Millions focus now switches to the National Sale Series with entries closing March 28.
