Always Believe Inc.'s Sooner Time became the first winner for sire Sidney's Candy with a 3 1/4-length victory in the first race at Del Mar July 23 .
Sooner Time, ridden by Mario Gutierrez for trainer Peter Eurton in her debut, went three wide in the turn of the 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race for 2-year-old fillies and drew clear to win comfortably at odds of 5-1.
Sooner Time was bred in Kentucky by White Fox Farm, out of the Cat Thief mare Debit or Credit.
Sidney's Candy was a six-time graded winner, and swept the Santa Anita Park preps for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) during his 3-year-old season in 2010, capturing the San Vicente Stakes (gr. II), San Felipe Stakes (gr. II), and Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) before finishing 17th in the first jewel of the Triple Crown.
The son of Candy Ride went on to win the 2010 La Jolla Handicap (gr. IIT) at Del Mar and the Sir Beaufort Stakes (gr. III) at Santa Anita to wrap up his sophomore season, then won the Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) in 2011 before being retired as a 4-year-old.
Sidney's Candy stands at WinStar Farm in Kentucky for a 2015 fee of $15,000, stands and nurses.
