Fresh off his Santa Anita Derby (G1) triumph, Journalism moves to the top of the latest National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll of Top 3-Year-Olds, released April 8.
Overcoming a quality field that included two other top-10 sophomores, Journalism impressed with how he navigated trouble in the 1 1/8-mile Kentucky Derby (G1) prep.
Now, the son of Curlin stands atop the NTRA poll with 269 points and 26 first-place votes.
Change was not just the story for the top spot. The top seven of this week's poll are different than the previous edition.
Sandman , who last out won the Arkansas Derby (G1), moved up one place to No. 2. Also, climbing one spot are Tappan Street , who has one first-place vote, and Sovereignty .
The week's big mover is Rodriguez , who was 19th a week ago, now lands at No. 5. But a gate-to-wire triumph in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct Race Track will do that.
Tiztastic climbs a spot to No. 6, and Citizen Bull who stood atop this poll last week, dropped to seventh after a fourth-place finish in the Santa Anita Derby.
Coal Battle maintains the No. 8 position, while Good Cheer , the top-10's only filly, stays at No. 9. Baeza , who had no points toward the poll a week ago, breaks in at No. 10 thanks to a runner-up performance in the Santa Anita Derby.
