Following their 1-2 finish in the $5 million Kentucky Derby (G1) May 3 at Churchill Downs, Sovereignty  and Journalism  have joined the leaderboard in the Longines World's Best Racehorse rankings released May 8.

Completing 1 1/4 miles on a sloppy track in 2:02.31, Sovereignty's 1 1/2-length triumph earned him a 121 rating on the international leaderboard. Joining him in a tie for eighth place was fellow Godolphin-owned Ruling Court , winner of Saturday's Two Thousand Guineas (G1) at Newmarket. Also tied with a 121 rating is Japan-based Dubai Turf (G1T) winner Soul Rush.

Journalism's runner-up effort in the Derby earned him a rating of 119, putting him in a six-horse tie for 16th that includes 2024 Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna .

Saudi Cup (G1) winner Forever Young  remains on top of the rankings with a 127 rating. Hong Kong's star sprinter, Ka Ying Rising's victory in the April 27 Chairman's Sprint Prize (G1) at Sha Tin moved the gelding into a tie for second place with Romantic Warrior  at 126.

In sole possession of fifth place with a 124 rating, Pegasus World Cup (G1) winner White Abarrio  remains the top-rated North American-based horse in the rankings. Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Locked  is tied with Calandagan  for sixth with a 123 rating.
