A perfect 3-for-3 in turf sprints, Shisospicy has proven herself among the classiest 3-year-old fillies in America. Now, the daughter of Mitole is scheduled to take her talents across the pond to Royal Ascot in the June 20 Commonwealth Cup (G1).
The news was announced in a May 19 post on X by Morplay Racing, who has owned the filly through her first six starts. Morplay also announced that they will now be partnered with Qatar Racing in ownership as they target Royal Ascot. Plans then call for starts at Kentucky Downs and the Breeders' Cup.
A 16 1/4-length debut winner last fall on dirt, Shisospicy placed in a pair of dirt stakes before switching to the turf in February. After a Gulfstream Park allowance victory, she took her speed gate-to-wire in the April 11 Limestone Stakes at Keeneland before finishing just .17 off Churchill Downs' 5 1/2-furlong course record in the May 10 Mamzelle Stakes (G3T).
Trainer Jose D'Angelo had his first starter at Royal Ascot in 2024, saddling Gabaldon to a second-place finish in the Windsor Castle Stakes.
The Commonwealth Cup will be contested over six furlongs—the distance in which Shisospicy broke her maiden over—and is open to both 3-year-old colts and fillies.
