It's the week we've all been waiting for - the $1.75-million William Hill Haskell Invitational is this Sunday at Monmouth Park, marking the return of 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.
While the race is the main event, there will be so much buildup all week, from Pharoah flying into New Jersey, to him working out over the track, to the festivities at Pharaoh Phan Phestival at Monmouth, and all the unexpected things that might pop up. You'll want to stay on top of it all by keeping an eye on these must-follow accounts for the Haskell.
@MonmouthPark
The official Twitter account of Monmouth Park is your best source for updates and changes on races, promotions going on around the track and photos of all of this weekend's festivities.
@FrankMirahmadi
As the track announcer at Monmouth Park as well as Oaklawn Park, Frank Mirahmadi has already had the opportunity to call American Pharoah's wins in the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby, and he knows the sport and the Haskell very well. Give him a follow for some unique insight into the race and daily happenings at the track.
@Amer_Pharoah
There have been a handful of American Pharoah Twitter accounts to pop up over the past few months but this one seems to be the most popular. Whoever runs it is good about posting and retweeting updates and photos of the horse.
@EspinozasVictor
American Pharoah's jockey Victor Espinoza is as active as any jockey on Twitter. He, along with his horse, will be the center of attention all week long, so following Victor on Twitter is a must.
@ZayatStables, @JustinZayat and @Jazz3162
Zayat Stables, of Ahmed and Justin Zayat, is all over Twitter. No one will have more access to the horse we all want to see this week than the Zayats. Therefore, give all of their accounts a follow and it's unlikely that you'll miss anything.
@DanonymousMan, @Itsmevictoriag, @PenelopePMiller, @ABRLive and @TeamABRLive
From the moment American Pharoah arrives in New Jersey until he heads back home after the Haskell, our team will be posting constant updates on Twitter. We're talking everything from the paddock to the finish line, from the grandstand to the clubhouse and anywhere else you can imagine things going on around the track.
@Bloodhorse and @BH_CNovak, @BH_AEberhardt, @BH_Fangst, @BH_EMitchell, @SteveHaskin
The Blood-Horse team provides great racing coverage year-round, and this year’s Haskell will be no exception. Workout reports, interviews, photos and videos plus all the news you could need, Blood-Horse covers it all.
@BradShadesOff
The official Twitter account of Monmouth's iconic shade-wearing handicapper Brad Thomas is a must-follow if you're serious about making the money playing the races this weekend. Thomas is a fixture on the New Jersey racing scene and has a proven "track record" of picking longshot winners.
@LillyPulitzer
Follow the fun fashion of Lilly Pulitzer as the brand sponsors a fashion show at Monmouth on Saturday, which is Ladies' Day. All ladies will receive free admission with a Derby hat or fascinator. The Lilly Pulitzer Fashion Show starts at 1pm at the Lady's Secret Café. There will be a ladies hat contest and drink specials, so be sure to be there for that or follow along on Twitter.
@TomTVG
Tom Cassidy is the resident on-site TVG anchor/reporter at Monmouth Park. He's a local guy and, from personal experience, I can tell you he's also a really nice and knowledgeable handicapper.
@liamdbenson
Liam Benson is the youngest trainer in horse racing. He's also a major supporter of America's Best Racing and hosted several behind-the-scenes tours of his barn to get new fans excited about the sport.
@AndyScoggin
Yes, his handle is Andy Scoggin but his real name is Matt Shifman, trust me! Matt is not only a great guy, husband and teacher, he's also one heck of a handicapper. He covers Monmouth Park for @HR_Nation and will be there tweeting out photos and updates from the moment Pharoah arrives this week.
@NJHorseplayer
His Twitter handle pretty much describes what Bill Holobowski is all about. He's also one of Monmouth Park's Racing Ambassadors, a group of racing fans at the track who do everything from giving people paddock tours to explaining how to read and understand a racing program. My good friends @Bleck1022, @RutgersKev, @Jkearns33168 and @StormKittyKat are also part of the ambassador program and all deserve a follow.
@JockeyPacoLopez
Per usual, Paco Lopes is dominating the rider standings at Monmouth Park. You could just blindly bet all of the horses he's on this weekend and probably cash a bunch of tickets. Some of Monmouth's other active tweeting jockeys are local legend @BravoAce, @NikJuarez, and @TrevorMcCarthy.
@KenwoodRacing
In addition to a strong jockey colony, Monmouth also has a great community of owners and trainers. One of our favorite ownership groups in Kenwood Racing. They are huge supporters of America's Best Racing and introducing new fans to the sport of racing. Kenwood is also pretty active on Twitter.
@Theyreoff, @DanGonella, @SJHorseReport, @Rob_ Harding, @Pmasterpalo, @BenMassam, @ThruTheBridle, @Switch123123
I could probably list a dozen more but these are some of the most notable Monmouth Park horseplayers on Twitter. They're all good guys and are always happy to answer if you've got a question about betting the races.
@Josephirace
We'll chalk up his last name being “I-race” to pure coincidence. Joe is actually a councilman in the town of Oceanport, N.J., which is home to Monmouth Park. He grew up in the area and has remained a steady track-goer and supporter of horse racing. Oh, and he's the namesake of a 3-year-old Monmouth-based horse named @Irace_Horse.
@CamhatsNYC
Hat designer Christine Moore always sets up shop on the biggest race day at Monmouth Park. She has already started posting photos and tips on "what to wear" for Haskell 2015.
