Woodford Thoroughbreds, home of 2015 Hall of Fame inductee Xtra Heat, will offer her halter in an online auction with proceeds going to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.
"We thought auctioning off her halter would be a fun way to shine the spotlight on this accomplishment and allow anyone who enjoyed following the filly to own a little piece of history," said Mat Lyons, Woodford general manager.
All proceeds from the winning bidder are to be donated to the TAA. TAA is a non-profit organization that serves as both the accrediting body for aftercare facilities that care for Thoroughbreds following the conclusion of their racing careers and a fundraising body to support these approved facilities.
The ceremony will take place at Fasig-Tipton's Humphrey S. Finney pavilion in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. at 10:30 a.m., on Aug. 7.
Xtra Heat won 25 stakes in a 35-race career and earned $2,389,635. She was champion 3-year-old filly of 2001.
"Horses today just don't race that consistently at that level," Lyons said. "She was tough and it made her special."
To bid on the halter go to http://www.32auctions.com/XtraHeatHalter and set up an account. Bidding opens at 8 a.m. ET, July 30 and closes at 9 p.m., Aug. 8.
