Jockey Edgard Zayas, who captured the riding titles at Gulfstream Park's 2014 summer meet as well as at the fall meeting at Gulfstream Park West, is rehabilitating following successful surgery July 28 to repair a fractured left clavicle, according to his agent Tito Fuentes.

Zayas suffered the injury after being unseated from his mount during the ninth race at Gulfstream July 17 and is expected to be out of competition for four to six weeks. The goal is for the 22-year-old to return to riding in early September.

"Everything went very well," Fuentes said. "We're hoping to get him back for the second leg of the (Florida Sire Stakes) on Sept. 5. That's the plan right now. The surgery was a success, so everything went according to what the doctor said."

Zayas ranked fourth nationally in wins in 2014 and was tied for the lead in the summer rider standings at Gulfstream at the time of his injury. He won the $250,000 Smile Sprint (gr. II) with Favorite Tale July 5, defeating reigning Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) champion Work All Week. In his third season of racing, he has ridden 591winners for earnings of almost $13 million.
